Masaveu Collection Exhibition Showcases 20th-Century Spanish Art in Madrid
Madrid, Spain – The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson is currently hosting “Masaveu Collection. Twentieth-Century Spanish Art: From Picasso to Barceló,” a major exhibition featuring one hundred iconic paintings and sculptures from the Masaveu Collection. The exhibition, which began on October 9, 2024, and runs through July 19, 2026, offers a comprehensive journey through Spanish art of the last century.
A Diverse Collection of Masterpieces
The exhibition brings together works by some of Spain’s most celebrated artists, including Pablo Picasso, María Blanchard, Juan Gris, Sorolla, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Tàpies, and Miquel Barceló [Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson]. Curated by María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, senior lecturer in art history at the Complutense University of Madrid, the display is organized to highlight different movements and artistic styles throughout the 20th century [esmadrid.com].
Expanding the Collection
The works on display represent collecting efforts initiated in the 1960s by Pedro Masaveu Peterson and continued by Elías Masaveu. Recent years have seen a systematic expansion of the collection through the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson. The exhibition includes pieces from the Masaveu Collection, as well as works from the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Collection and the personal collection of Fernando Masaveu, the Foundation’s president [Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson].
Photography Exhibition
In parallel with the main exhibition, a separate display of photographs from the Masaveu collections is being presented. This photography exhibition, featuring images taken between the 1930s and the early 21st century, showcases the work of artists such as Antonio Arissa, José Alemany, Eva Lootz, and Ramón Masats [arteinformado.com]. The photographs explore themes of work, leisure, landscape, and the human form, with some capturing defining moments in Spanish history, such as Ramón Masats’s “Seminario, Madrid” from 1960.

The exhibition is located at the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson’s Madrid Centre, at C/ Alcalá Galiano, 6. It is open from Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 20:00, Saturdays from 10:00 to 20:00, and Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 15:00. Admission is free [arteinformado.com].
