Maya Rudolph to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Oh, Mary!’
Six-time Emmy Award winner Maya Rudolph is set to make her Broadway debut this spring in the hit comedy Oh, Mary!, stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln at the Lyceum Theatre. Her limited eight-week run begins April 28 and continues through June 20.
Rudolph, known for her work on Saturday Night Live, Loot, Bridesmaids, and Big Mouth, expressed her excitement about joining the production. “Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph said in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have arrive before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime—as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman—is a real dream come true.”
A Succession of Stars
Rudolph joins a distinguished lineup of actors who have previously portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!, including Cole Escola (who likewise wrote the play), Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin, and Hannah Solow. John Cameron Mitchell currently plays the role and will continue through April 26, paving the way for Rudolph’s debut.
About ‘Oh, Mary!’
Oh, Mary!, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton, premiered at the Lyceum Theatre on July 11, 2024, and quickly became a box office success, marking the first show in the theater’s 121-year history to exceed $1 million in single-week gross revenue. The play offers a comedic and irreverent take on history, imagining Mary Todd Lincoln as a cabaret-obsessed socialite amidst the backdrop of the Civil War.
Extended Run and Touring Production
Producers Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie, and Carlee Briglia have announced that Oh, Mary! will extend its Broadway run through January 3, 2027. A West End production will continue at the Trafalgar Theatre in London through July 18, 2026, and a North American tour is scheduled to begin in Hartford, CT, in September 2026.
