Microsoft Reveals Xbox Cloud Gaming Pricing for Non-Subscribers

Microsoft has revealed pricing for its new Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime packs starting at $3.99 for 10 hours, allowing users to stream games without an active subscription.

Xbox Insiders Test New Playtime Packs

Starting October 21, 2026, Xbox Insiders can purchase standalone streaming hours through the official Xbox Wire blog, according to beebom.com.

The company structured the introductory pricing across three distinct tiers. Players can buy 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, or 50 hours for $11.99. Each package grants an ad-free streaming experience with shorter peak-hour wait times, though users still need to own an eligible cloud-playable title or a supported free-to-play game.

Game Pass Limits Arrive in November

The paid packs coincide with structural changes to Microsoft’s subscription tiers. In September 2026, Xbox announced monthly cloud gaming limits for Game Pass subscribers beginning in November. Under the upcoming system, Game Pass Ultimate members receive 15 free streaming hours, Premium users get 10 hours, and Essential subscribers receive 5 hours.

Industry reports indicate that the 15-hour cap on Ultimate corresponds to the threshold where server infrastructure, compute, network, and bandwidth costs begin outpacing subscription revenue. Unlike a monthly subscription, however, purchased playtime packs do not expire until used up.

Microsoft Cuts Staff as Paid Cloud Packs Launch

The streaming updates run parallel to corporate downsizing at Microsoft. Xbox is currently executing a restructuring plan involving more than 3,000 employee layoffs, with additional workforce reductions anticipated in subsequent months.

Following the Insider preview, the paid cloud packs will launch for all Xbox players in November 2026. Beebom.com reported that these standalone hours could offer an alternative for players if Xbox Game Pass modifies its day-one release model in 2027.
