Mission Beach’s Noah Liker: From Rehab to Wiffle Ball League Founder
Noah Liker, a resident of Mission Beach, San Diego, has become a notable figure in the local sports scene through the creation of the Bay Bros Wiffle League (BBWL). Liker’s journey to founding the league began after recovering from a knee injury in 2021.
The Genesis of the Bay Bros Wiffle League
The idea for the BBWL originated with a conversation between Liker and his then-roommate, Nate Moncrief, a 3-time MVP and 2-time BBWL World Series Champion and captain of the Coastal Cuttlefish. Moncrief suggested they play Wiffle ball, prompting Liker, fresh from rehab, to offer to pitch.
Inspired by Major League Wiffle YouTube videos, they organized a game with a slight group of friends. What started with five players quickly expanded to sixteen, leading to the formation of four inaugural teams: The Downtown Divers, Inland Iron, Coastal Cuttlefish, and North County Knights.
Growth and Community
The league has since grown to include 40 players across eight teams, with participation from family members and individuals with diverse baseball backgrounds, ranging from those who played in little league to those scouted by major league teams. The BBWL fosters a sense of community, with family rivalries and a dedicated following, including a grandmother who regularly attends games.
Family Life in Mission Beach
Recent social media posts highlight the appeal of Mission Beach as a family destination. One family shared their experience visiting with six of their nine children, noting that three were studying on the East Coast and another was traveling to New York City to visit a sibling. Despite a 17-year-old daughter’s aversion to sand, the family enjoyed their time at the beach.
