Misunderstood Heron Expands to Mayo at Campbell’s Pub
The popular Galway-based cafe, Misunderstood Heron, is set to open a new location at the foot of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo this April. The cafe will operate within Campbell’s Pub in Murrisk, a renowned and historic pub known for serving visitors climbing the mountain.
A Galway Favorite Heads West
Misunderstood Heron first gained recognition for its container cafe in Leenaun, and has now announced its expansion to Mayo. The business shared on social media its excitement about the new location, stating they are looking forward to the season and “waving goodbye to a long ol’ winter.” Galway Beo first reported the news on February 17, 2026.
Campbell’s Pub: A Historic Mayo Landmark
Campbell’s Pub, situated in Westport, County Mayo, has a long history of serving visitors to Croagh Patrick. Described as a quaint Irish pub, it’s located at the beginning of the ascent and the end of the descent of the mountain, offering a traditional Irish experience. Campbell’s Pub has been serving visitors for generations, providing drinks and food to those completing the climb.
What to Expect at the New Location
The Misunderstood Heron’s new location will offer a daytime cafe experience, featuring pasties, cakes, coffee, and a locally sourced food menu. Mayo News and The Western People both reported the opening is scheduled for April 2026.
