Mogwai Celebrate 30 Years With New Video, European Tour, and Reflect on Past Feuds

Scottish post-rock pioneers Mogwai are marking three decades of musical innovation with the release of a new video for their debut single, “Tuner,” and a series of European tour dates, including two homecoming shows in Glasgow. The band as well recently wrapped a UK tour and are set to perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

A Look Back at 30 Years of Rock Action

The release of the “Tuner” video coincides with the 30th anniversary of Rock Action Records, the label founded and run by Mogwai. Over the years, Rock Action has released over 150 records, championing both local and international artists, including Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Kathryn Joseph, and Cloth. Mogwai themselves have released 11 studio albums, with their most recent, ‘The Bad Fire,’ arriving last year.

From T In The Park T-Shirts to Blur Disdain

Mogwai’s early years were marked by a distinct contrast to the Britpop scene dominating the UK in the mid-1990s. Bandleader Stuart Braithwaite has often spoken about the band’s lack of connection to the “disposable culture” of Britpop, feeling it lacked substance. This sentiment manifested in a memorable, and somewhat controversial, moment at the T In The Park festival in 1999.

When scheduled to play the same stage as Blur, Mogwai produced a limited-edition T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Blur: Are Shite.” Braithwaite described the move as a “silly idea” that garnered more attention than anticipated, sparking debate in the music press. He later reflected that even as amusing at the time, the feud may not have been worth the attention. Despite the public disagreement, Blur guitarist Graham Coxon later revealed himself to be a fan of Mogwai, stating in a 2015 Twitter exchange, “Not at all, quite the opposite.”

Supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust

Mogwai will headline London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 25th as part of the annual series of concerts benefiting the Teenage Cancer Trust, alongside Craven Faults and Annika Kilkenny. The Cure’s Robert Smith has taken over curatorial duties from Roger Daltrey for the 2026 season. Other artists performing throughout the week include Elbow, My Bloody Valentine, Wolf Alice, Garbage, Manic Street Preachers, and Placebo. The concerts aim to raise funds for specialist nurses and youth workers supporting young people with cancer, having raised over two million pounds in 2025.
