Moldovan Educators Attend Assessment Training in Romania

More than 30 representatives from Moldovan universities, high schools, the Ministry of Education and Research, and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation are taking part in a professional development program in Romania running from October 26 to October 30, noi.md reported. The training focuses on designing national exam items, verifying test quality, and analyzing student performance metrics.

Evaluating Clarity and Difficulty in Test Design

Participants in the cross-border program walk through the entire testing preparation pipeline, starting from initial question formulation down to final variant verification. Educators and officials work directly with examination data to evaluate both the clarity and difficulty level of specific questions. This process measures whether tasks objectively test students across different preparation backgrounds.

Lilia Ivanov, director of the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation, emphasized the scientific rigor behind the initiative. National exam is not just a set of questions and a final score, Ivanov said, according to noi.md. Behind each student’s result should be a comprehensive, scientifically based process. Only then can we be sure of the accuracy of measurements and the correctness of decisions made based on these results. Ivanov added that the accumulated expertise will guide future reforms within Moldova’s educational evaluation system.

Performance Levels and Cross-Year Comparison Techniques

The curriculum also covers technical methods for comparing exam results across different years, establishing clear performance levels, and formatting data for public presentation.

Dragoş Iliescu, a professor of psychology and educational sciences, noted the broader purpose of test analytics. Quality of the exam is manifested not only in how it is designed, but also in how we interpret its results, Iliescu stated, as reported by noi.md. Evaluation data should help us better understand what knowledge and skills students possess, and at the same time serve as a basis for decisions aimed at improving the educational process.

Program Objectives and Expert Exchange

  • Facilitating direct professional exchanges between Moldovan educational specialists and Romanian assessment experts.
  • Establishing standardized solutions for conducting clearer and more objective national examinations.
  • Developing modernized tests that remain relevant to current student competencies.
