MONSTERNAUT Unleashes Crushing New Single “Black Blizzard” Ahead of ‘Approaching Doom’ Album Release

Finnish heavy rock trio MONSTERNAUT has premiered their latest single, “Black Blizzard,” offering a taste of their forthcoming album, Approaching Doom, set to drop on March 27th via Heavy Psych Sounds Records. The track showcases a shift in the band’s sound, moving away from earlier fuzz-driven stoner rock towards a heavier, more metallic and groove-laden style reminiscent of 90s metal.

A Darker, More Metallic Sound

MONSTERNAUT describes “Black Blizzard” as one of the album’s most intense moments, propelled by a powerful rhythm and lyrics exploring themes of emptiness and surrender. The band stated, “’Black Blizzard’ brings one of the heavier moments on the album, carried by a pulse that keeps the whole thing rolling beneath the weight, with lyrics that sink into the pull of the void and the quiet calm that comes with giving in to it. May this track be the faint light that leads you toward your own quiet nothingness.”

Analog Recording and Influences

Approaching Doom was recorded to analog tape without digital editing, resulting in a raw and gritty production quality. The band credits a change in drummers with opening up new rhythmic and riffing possibilities, pushing their sound into uncharted territory while remaining true to their roots. MONSTERNAUT cites influences such as early Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Alabama Thunderpussy, and The Sword.
