Burundi launched a national campaign on Wednesday to distribute insecticide-treated mosquito nets, bolstering its efforts to combat malaria.
First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye chaired the launching ceremony Wednesday in Kibumbu, Gitega province, central Burundi.
Burundian officials and representatives from United Nations agencies, and financial and development partners in the health sector attended the event.
The campaign, running until December 1, began in Kibumbu as the region experiences the highest rates of malaria, according to the First Lady.
Ndayishimiye also urged stakeholders, including financial partners in Burundi’s health sector, to ensure the availability of malaria vaccines, which were recently introduced.
