The geological Agency stated that the status of mount Semeru had risen to level IV (Caution). Mount Semeru’s status rose two levels from level II (Alert) to level IV (Caution).
“Informing about the increase in the activity level of Mount Semeru from level III (Alert) to level IV (Awas) at 17.00 WIB,” said Head of the Geological agency M Wafid in his statement as reported detikJatim.
Wafid recommended that there be no activity in the south southeast sector within a radius of 8 km from the peak or center of the eruption. He appealed to residents to be aware of the potential for hot clouds, lava avalanches and lahars along rivers/valleys that originate at the peak of mount Semeru Volcano.
