Iraqi Man Arrested in Jakarta After Alleged Murder of Mpok Nori’s Granddaughter
Jakarta – An Iraqi citizen, identified as Fuad, has been arrested by police in connection with the death of DA (37), the granddaughter of Indonesian comedian Mpok Nori, in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta. Fuad was apprehended while attempting to flee to Sumatra by bus, according to authorities.
Jealousy Motivated the Killing
Police investigations suggest the motive behind the murder was jealousy. “Yes, based on the examination we carried out on the perpetrator, it was suspected that it was due to jealousy. This is due to the investigation of the perpetrator,” stated AKP Fechy J Atupah, Committee 2 of the Sub-Directorate for Resmob Polda Metro Jaya, on Monday (March 23, 2026) as reported by Detik News.
Relationship and Escalating Conflict
The victim and the perpetrator were married in a nikah siri (unregistered marriage). Recent arguments had arisen due to suspicions that the victim was involved with another man. “So regarding the chronology of the murder incident, the perpetrator and the victim were husband and wife, they had an unregistered marriage. In the last few days there have been arguments, often noisy because the perpetrator was jealous of the victim who was suspected of having a relationship with another man,” explained AKP Fechy J Atupah.
The couple had been living separately, with Fuad residing in his own boarding house and DA in hers. On March 20, 2026, Fuad reportedly saw DA with another man at a Ramadan Bazaar, leading to a confrontation. “I was visited, asked, but the man left, he then made a fuss with the victim. After that, he left, they separated at the Bazar,” Atupah added.
The Night of the Murder
Fuad returned to DA’s boarding house around 10:00 PM on the same day. He found her with the same man, and another argument ensued. After being asked to leave, Fuad returned to his boarding house, where he reportedly contemplated his actions before returning to DA’s residence. There, he allegedly strangled her, and when she resisted, he stabbed her in the neck.
Attempted Escape and Arrest
After the murder, Fuad attempted to flee to Sumatra. He was arrested on March 21, 2026, at 12:49 PM on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road at Kilometer 68. iNews.id reports that Fuad did not have a specific destination in Sumatra, but was simply trying to distance himself from the crime scene.
According to authorities, Fuad expressed remorse during his arrest and cooperated with the police.
Evidence and Further Investigation
The knife used in the murder was found at the scene, placed on top of a pile of shoes. Police plan to question the victim’s family this week to gather more information about the relationship between DA and Fuad, and to clarify conflicting accounts regarding whether the couple had separated.
