M&S Adapts to Weight-Loss Drug Trend with New Food range

Marks & Spencer is launching a range of foods specifically designed for people taking weight-loss injections, responding to the drugs’ growing popularity in the UK.

The new range features 20 “nutrient-dense” products. It’s aimed at customers using GLP-1 weight-loss medications, as supermarkets adjust to how these drugs are changing shopping habits.

these products will be available in M&S foodhalls starting January 5th. The selection includes salads, meals, and bread formulated to provide high levels of fiber, vitamins, and minerals in smaller portions.

GLP-1 drug use is rising dramatically in the UK. Online searches and private prescriptions have increased significantly, fueled by their effectiveness and media coverage. Approximately 1.5 million people in the UK are now estimated to be accessing GLP-1 treatment privately, while NHS England prescriptions for these injections have risen by around 900 percent since 2020.

GLP-1 medications – formally known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists – were initially created to treat type 2 diabetes by regulating blood sugar. However, drugs like semaglutide (Ozempic for diabetes, Wegovy for weight loss) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) have become popular for weight loss. They work by suppressing appetite, slowing digestion, and signaling fullness to the brain.
