Former Münsingen Hospital to be Reimagined as Medical Health Center

Good news is on the horizon for the former Münsingen Hospital, which has been closed since June 2023. Two investors are vying to transform the site into a modern medical health center, with the Insel Group set to decide which proposal moves forward.

As recently as December, the search for investors for the planned health center was reportedly proving difficult. Now, two interested parties have emerged, both eager to take over and invest in the property, adhering to established principles. They are currently seeking a purchase agreement with the Insel Group, the property owner.

Intensive Search and Community Involvement

Mayor Stefanie Feller (GLP) updated the Münsingen parliament on the project’s status. Over recent months, the municipality conducted a feasibility study and engaged in numerous discussions, contacting approximately 20 potential investors. Project management is being handled by Jürg Marti and former mayor Beat Moser.

Two Investors Present Proposals

From this process, two investors have presented their interest in developing the area and operating it as a medical center. They are now presenting their plans to the Insel Group, which, as the owner, will make the final decision on which proposal to accept. A key prerequisite is reaching an agreement on the property’s purchase price.

Community Benefits and Future Plans

The development offers a significant benefit to the community, as the municipality will not need to act as a buyer or investor. Although, the community will not be directly involved in the project. Both potential investors have agreed to grant the municipality of Münsingen a right of first refusal in the event of a future sale.

Negotiations Underway

There are no current plans to alter the zoning regulations. The identities of the interested parties remain confidential as negotiations are ongoing. Further discussions between the potential buyers and the Insel Group are scheduled for the finish of March, with more information expected to be released afterward.

Integrated Health Center Services

The planned integrated health center is envisioned to offer a range of services, including a family doctor with walk-in access, an operation center for outpatient procedures, and physiotherapy services. The municipality of Münsingen had previously agreed on a purchase price with Spitalnetz Bern Immobilien AG, the former owner of the hospital, but details of that agreement remain confidential.
