Mushroom Photography Contest: Join the Search in Valsesia and Biellese Forests

The annual Valsesia mushroom photography contest has officially opened its submission window for the 2026 season, inviting nature enthusiasts to capture fungi across Valsesia, bassa Valsesia, Valsessera, and Valdilana. According to Notizia Oggi, the initiative is organized by the Associazione Informazione del territorio in collaboration with Notizia Oggi and the Gruppo Micologico Biellese.

Contest Submission Guidelines and Rules

Participants can submit a maximum of two photographs depicting mushrooms found within the designated competition zones, according to rules outlined by Notizia Oggi. Entrants may optionally submit a third photograph showing the author alongside their discovery, though this image remains strictly out of competition and will not be evaluated by the jury.

To qualify for judging, the two competition entries must include specific metadata:

  • The author’s full name
  • The exact location of the discovery
  • The date of the find, which must fall within the 2026 calendar year

Organizers confirmed that any submissions lacking these mandatory details will be disqualified from the contest.

How to Enter and Publication Schedule

Entries must be transmitted digitally via WhatsApp to the dedicated telephone number 370.3518.212, as reported by Notizia Oggi. The submission window is already open. Selected photographs will begin appearing in print and online editions of Notizia Oggi starting September 24, with additional images published throughout subsequent weekly issues.

Professional Jury Evaluation and Prizes

A panel of three professional photographers will evaluate the submitted imagery once the collection phase concludes, according to the organizing partners. The jury will select five winning entries for publication in Notizia Oggi.

The Gruppo Micologico Biellese is sponsoring prizes for the five victors, providing an official certificate alongside a large-format enlargement (gigantografia) of each winning photograph. Organizers emphasize that the competition prioritizes photographic composition, environmental setting, and unique discoveries rather than the physical size or rarity of the mushroom species captured.
