Television Rejection and Electoral Clash in Belgrade

Serbian broadcaster N1 refused to air an election presentation by former president Aleksandar Vučić, citing years of verbal abuse and insults. It was reported that Vučić planned to use the slot to introduce the “United Serbia” list for the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). The network defended its decision by pointing to instances where Vučić labeled its staff as “scum,” “terrorists,” and “foreign mercenaries.”

Broadcast Ban Versus Opposition Accusations

The network stated that while it would not feature Vučić directly before the vote, the SNS remains welcome to send another candidate to present their platform. N1 offered to schedule an interview with Vučić only after the upcoming parliamentary election on October 25. Acting President Ana Brnabić condemned the decision, comparing the media ban to the eras of Nazism and the Ustaše movement while asserting that the television station is too afraid to grant Vučić 24 minutes of airtime.

Student List Debate Defiance

The campaign disputes expanded when Ilija Sərdanović, lead candidate for the “Student List,” rejected a separate televised debate challenge from Vučić. Sərdanović publicly dismissed the invitation by stating that Vučić lacked sufficient authority for such a debate. Vučić had previously circulated a video via TikTok offering to meet candidates in any studio, including N1 or Nova S, with multiple opponents facing him at once. The student candidates declined, maintaining that they prefer discussing policy with people who have something to say rather than engaging with figures who have already said everything.
