Nasboi Criticizes Carter Efe Over Skit Making ‘Is Dead’ Claim

Nigerian skitmaker Nasboi has publicly disagreed with fellow content creator Carter Efe’s assertion that skit making is no longer a thriving form of entertainment. The debate arose after Efe stated during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast that the skit-making industry was “dead.”

Carter Efe’s Comments Spark Debate

Carter Efe explained that he experienced frustration with skit making before transitioning to live streaming. He attributed a period of depression to his perception of a decline within the skit-making space, which prompted his shift towards streaming content. His remarks quickly generated discussion on social media, with some creators defending the skit industry whereas others acknowledged his right to explore new avenues.

Nasboi Responds to the Claims

Reacting in an interview with Naija FM Lagos, Nasboi strongly contested Carter Efe’s assessment. He argued that while entertainers may evolve and explore new platforms, it is inappropriate to dismiss the industry that initially brought them recognition. “Evolving is not a bad idea, but talking down on the industry that made you is a crime in my books,” Nasboi stated.

Nasboi as well noted his friendly relationship with Carter Efe, despite their disagreement, describing him as a “loose talker.”

Skit Making Continues to Launch New Stars

Nasboi emphasized that skit making remains a vibrant and growing segment of Nigeria’s digital entertainment landscape. He highlighted that numerous new creators continue to gain popularity through short comedy videos across various social media platforms. “You can’t say skit making is dead. People are blowing up every day with skit making,” he explained.

He further pointed out that creators diversifying into other areas – such as music, streaming, or acting – does not signify the decline of the original industry. “The fact that people evolve doesn’t mean that the industries they are leaving are dead,” Nasboi added.

The Growing Influence of Online Content Creation

Skit making has been instrumental in launching the careers of many Nigerian entertainers in recent years. Numerous creators have leveraged short-form comedy videos on social media to build substantial audiences and transition into other entertainment fields, including music, acting, and brand partnerships.

The debate initiated by Carter Efe’s remarks underscores the ongoing evolution within Nigeria’s digital entertainment industry, where content creators are continuously exploring new formats and platforms. Despite differing opinions, skit making continues to serve as a significant entry point for emerging talents in the country’s online entertainment scene.
