Netherlands Welcomes Youngest-Ever Prime Minister Rob Jetten

The Netherlands has a modern government, led by Rob Jetten, who at 37, is the country’s youngest-ever prime minister. The new three-party minority government was sworn in on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Royal Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague .

A New Coalition Takes Office

Jetten, leader of the Democrats 66 (D66) party, was sworn in by King Willem-Alexander. Alongside him were key members of the new coalition, including Deputy Prime Minister Dilan Yesilgöz . The coalition is comprised of three parties: Democrats 66, the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, and the Christian Democrats .

The Swearing-In Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony at Huis ten Bosch Palace followed traditional protocols. Ministers and State Secretaries could choose between a religious or non-religious oath, reciting either “So help me God Almighty” or “I declare and promise this” . Male ministers appeared in morning coats before changing into plain dark suits for the official photograph with the King, a tradition reportedly stemming from a preference of Queen Juliana .

A Period of Political Change

This marks the third new Dutch Cabinet to take office in just over four years , signaling a period of political change for the Netherlands. Following the ceremony, the cabinet members traveled to their respective ministries to officially begin their duties .
