Nevada State Trooper Involved in Shooting on I-15 in Las Vegas

Las Vegas,NV – 2026/02/09 00:13:33 – A Nevada State Police trooper discharged a firearm during a traffic stop early Sunday morning on the southbound I-15 on-ramp at St. Rose Parkway. The incident occurred after a driver initially failed to obey a traffic signal and afterward refused to cooperate with officers.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop after observing the vehicle run a red light. During the encounter, officers suspected the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence. When asked to exit the vehicle,the driver reportedly refused and instead brandished a firearm,directing it toward the troopers.

Responding to the immediate threat,one trooper fired into the driver’s side window. The driver was than taken into custody without further escalation. Paramedics transported the individual to a local hospital for evaluation. Following medical clearance, the driver was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Authorities have confirmed that no serious injuries were reported as an inevitable result of the incident. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently leading the investigation. Investigators will examine all evidence and conduct interviews to determine the full sequence of events. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
