Banner Plaza Opens on M18, Bringing New Services and 120 Jobs to County Clare
The Plaza Group has officially opened the Banner Plaza, a new motorway service area located at Junction 12 on the M18 near Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. The €20 million development, which faced several objections and delays, is now fully operational, offering a range of food, fuel, and electric vehicle (EV) charging options to motorists.
A Long-Awaited Facility
The opening of the Banner Plaza addresses a significant gap in services along the M18, providing a much-needed rest stop for travelers on what was previously a 100km stretch of motorway without a proper service facility . The project, initially approved by Clare County Council in 2020, overcame legal challenges before receiving final approval in September 2024 .
Dining and Retail Options
The Banner Plaza features a variety of well-known Irish and international brands, including Supermac’s, Papa John’s, SuperSubs, Mac’s Place Deli, and BRÚ – a premium barista coffee shop . The plaza includes Mama Rich, a family-owned Asian restaurant originally from Galway , and a Moo Parlour. A Spar convenience store provides essential travel items.
Fuel and EV Charging
In addition to dining options, the Banner Plaza offers Texaco fuel services and EV charging bays, catering to the growing number of electric vehicle drivers . The plaza is open daily from 7 am to 11 pm.
Economic Impact
The development has created 120 jobs in the Clare region, utilizing local contractors and professional firms during construction . Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of The Plaza Group, highlighted the importance of the project for both the company and the local economy .
Official Opening
An unofficial opening took place on November 7th, 2025, with a large number of visitors . Transport Minister visited Clare for the official opening .
