The Nigeria Innovation Cluster Exchange (NICE) opened applications for its Pipeline Clinics, offering targeted operational support and strategic growth frameworks for businesses operating across six regional priority clusters. Implemented by The Nest Innovation Technology Park in partnership with the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub through the UK Government’s Digital Access Programme, alongside the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), the programme moves beyond generic entrepreneurship training to address sector-specific bottlenecks, according to programme organizers.
Target Clusters and Regional Focus
Following initial desk and field research that mapped innovation activities across Nigeria, NICE structured the Pipeline Clinics around six distinct geographical and industrial clusters. Kano anchors the agro-processing sector, while Abia and Ogun focus on manufacturing. Oyo hosts the health cluster, Akwa Ibom covers minerals, and Abuja serves as the hub for cybersecurity initiatives.
Unlike broad-based acceleration initiatives, these clinics provide hands-on diagnostics and technical mentorship tailored to the exact regulatory and operational hurdles of each region. The initiative aims to assist early-stage founders and growing startups in refining business models and building investment-ready pipelines amid macroeconomic headwinds and capital constraints.
Programme Structure and Expert Mentorship
The curriculum tackles critical operational pillars, including innovation management, prototyping, access to specialized facilities, and peer exchange. Participants will engage with Experts-in-Residence traveling from the UK who provide specialized knowledge in innovation strategy, incubation models, and technology validation.
The UK-Nigeria Tech Hub emphasized the broader economic stakes of the initiative. “Strong local innovation clusters are essential to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential. Through the NICE Pipeline Clinics, we are equipping entrepreneurs and businesses with the practical tools, networks, and support needed to strengthen their competitiveness, address local challenges, and scale sustainable solutions,” the hub stated.
Oluwajoba Oloba, Co-founder of The Nest Innovation Technology Park, noted that the programme is designed to bridge fragmentation within the country’s ecosystem by fostering organic collaboration between startups, support organizations, and research institutions.
Eligibility and Application Criteria
The Pipeline Clinics accept applications from Nigerian-owned or Nigeria-based enterprises that maintain an existing startup, prototype, product, service, or clearly defined business model within the targeted sectors. Applicants must demonstrate direct relevance to at least one of the six priority clusters and articulate a specific business challenge or growth objective.
Priority consideration is given to ventures displaying strong growth potential, market traction, expansion readiness, job-creation capacity, and a willingness to commit time for assessment and implementation. Following the conclusion of the clinics and expert exchanges, NICE plans to transition participants into collaborative innovation sprints to validate solutions alongside Nigerian and UK partners.
