NK Freshman Named to USA Gymnastics Junior Women’s National Team

Cassandra Tan, a North Kitsap High School freshman, has been named to the USA Gymnastics Junior Women’s National Team following her performance at the Winter Cup in Louisville, KY, on February 22, 2026. Her balance beam score at the Winter Cup was 11.350 (D: 4.4, E: 6.950) [1].

Early Training and Development

Tan began her gymnastics training at Cascade Elite Gymnastics in Silverdale at the age of five, according to her father, Mark Tan. She began competing in middle school. She currently trains at Pacific Reign Gymnastics in Woodinville, requiring a daily commute via the Kingston-Edmonds ferry.

Commitment and Routine

Tan maintains a rigorous schedule to balance academics and training. She wakes up at 6:30 a.m. On weekdays to attend classes before traveling to Pacific Reign Gymnastics. Her training regimen consists of six days a week, with five-hour practices that include 45-minute rotations for each event, warm-ups, and conditioning.

Mark Tan noted that Cassandra developed a consistent bedtime routine early in her gymnastics career, going to bed between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. To ensure adequate rest.

Coaching and Mental Preparation

Cassandra’s current coach, Cale Robinson, was named Coach of the Year in 2025. [2] Robinson, co-owner of Pacific Reign, emphasizes foundational skills to foster overall development. Before routines, Cassandra listens to music, currently “Somewhere in Brooklyn” by Bruno Mars, to help her focus.

National Competition Results

Cassandra Tan has demonstrated consistent success in national competitions. In 2025, she was the All-Around champion at the Hopes Championships, as well winning titles on Vault, Uneven Bars (tie), Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. She placed third in the All-Around at the 2025 Hopes Classic and sixth on Floor Exercise at the 2023 Hopes Classic. [2] At the 2026 Winter Cup, she placed 8th on Uneven Bars (tie) and 10th in the All-Around in the Junior Division. [2]

Future Olympic Potential

Robinson believes that with continued incremental improvements, Tan has the potential to be a contender for the 2028 Olympics. He notes her coachability and dedication to continuous improvement. [2]
