Canarian Mountain Federation Makes Nordic Walking and Cancer Course Permanently Available

The Canarian Mountain Federation (Fecamon), through its Canarian Mountain School, has integrated a specialized course on Nordic walking and cancer into its permanent online training catalog. This decision follows a successful initial run and positive evaluations, aiming to improve the well-being and physical condition of individuals undergoing oncological processes. The course is now accessible to all interested parties via the federation’s official portal.

Initial Course Participation and Demographics

The first phase of the training program attracted 29 participants, including 18 women and 11 men. Students represented a broad geographic range, with individuals affiliated with clubs in eight autonomous communities – Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Galicia, and the Basque Country – as well as nine independent learners. This diversity highlights growing interest in integrating mountain physical activity with public health initiatives.

Course Structure and Content

The training program is divided into four units, covering the fundamentals of cancer pathology and its treatments, alongside the specific technical aspects of Nordic walking as applied to oncology, with a particular focus on breast cancer. Content is designed to be accessible and practical, explaining complex concepts related to the lymphatic system and the side effects of cancer treatments. Audiovisual resources and supplementary documentation are used to ensure safe and effective sports practice.

Positive Feedback and Evaluation

The initial course received a high satisfaction rating of 9.48 out of 10, based on student evaluations. Participants praised the clarity of presentation and the pedagogical approach to conveying scientific knowledge in a straightforward manner. The organization of the content and the quality of instruction were identified as key strengths, enabling a diverse audience to understand the material and promote healthy habits during and after cancer treatment.

Access and Certification

The course requires approximately three hours of dedication and can be completed on any device with internet access. Upon completion of all units, participants automatically receive a certificate of achievement. Registration is available directly on the Fecamon web platform, with unlimited enrollment to facilitate ongoing education for athletes and those interested in this field of health.

Fecamon’s Ongoing Initiatives

In addition to the Nordic walking and cancer course, Fecamon continues to offer a range of training programs and events, including a permanent course on Nordic walking, formation in La Orotava, and a league for children in climbing Fecamon.
