UMass Defeats Northeastern 4-1 in Hockey East Quarterfinals

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 15 Massachusetts Minutemen advanced to the Hockey East semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the seventh-seeded Northeastern Huskies in the quarterfinals on Saturday at the Mullins Center. The win secures UMass a spot in the tournament’s next round at TD Garden.

First Period Action

UMass took an early lead with a goal from Larry Keenan at 3:47 of the first period. Northeastern responded late in the period, tying the game at 1-1 with a goal by Griffin Erdman, assisted by Austen May and Joe Connor, with under two minutes remaining.

Second and Third Period Goals Seal the Win

Jack Musa put UMass back in front with a goal at 17:32 of the second period, making it 2-1. In the third period, Václav Nestrašil and Cam O’Neill each scored to extend the Minutemen’s lead and secure the 4-1 victory.

Goaltending and Team Stats

Northeastern goaltender Lawton Zacher made 23 saves in the game. Captain Vinny Borgesi led both teams with three blocked shots. Northeastern’s season concludes with an overall record of 17-18-1.
