Oslo – Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, former Norwegian Minister of International Development and Minister of Nordic Cooperation, has been appointed as Norway’s fresh ambassador to South Africa. The appointment, announced in early March 2026, marks a new chapter for the seasoned politician and diplomat.

Political Background and Previous Roles

Tvinnereim served as the Minister of International Development and Minister of Nordic Cooperation from October 2021 to February 2025 under Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. A member of the Centre Party, she also held the position of the party’s second deputy leader from April 2014 to March 2025.

Prior to her ministerial roles, Tvinnereim gained experience in various governmental positions, including State Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development from February 2011 to October 2013. She also served as a second secretary at the Norwegian embassy in Maputo, Mozambique from 2007 to 2011.
