Norway Secures Silver at Bocuse d’Or Europe, Qualifies for World Championship

Norway’s Christian André Pettersen earned a silver medal at the Bocuse d’Or Europe competition held in Marseille, France on March 16, 2026, securing a spot for the nation in the Bocuse d’Or Grand Final in Lyon in 2027. Denmark’s Christian Wellendorf took the gold.

Pettersen’s Performance and Team Recognition

Pettersen’s team, representing Norway, delivered a strong performance throughout the competition. His commis, Hanna Korvald, was awarded the prestigious title of best commis. Pettersen expressed optimism about the team’s chances at the World Championship, stating to NRK, “We have saved the best goods for the WC.”

A Tribute to Marseille

The Norwegian team’s menu was designed as “A tribute to Marseille,” reflecting the host city of this year’s European competition. The dishes were evaluated by a panel of three juries assessing taste, kitchen technique, and visual presentation. Chefs also faced a stress test, creating an aioli under time constraints to demonstrate technical skill and precision.

Industry Praise and National Support

Norwegian celebrity chef Kjartan Skjelde praised Pettersen’s team, noting his belief that Pettersen strategically held back some of his best ideas for the World Championship. Eyvind Hellstrøm also expressed his admiration for the team’s performance, stating it bodes well for the future of restaurant cuisine in Norway.

Nils Kristen Sandtrøen, Norway’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, congratulated Pettersen and his team, highlighting the impressive achievement of qualifying for the World Championship and the potential to inspire others to pursue careers in the culinary arts.

Bocuse d’Or Europe and World Championship Qualification

Bocuse d’Or Europe, often referred to as the unofficial European Championship of culinary arts, brings together 20 of Europe’s top chefs. The top ten teams from the competition, including Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, qualify for the Bocuse d’Or Grand Final in Lyon in January 2027. Christian André Pettersen previously won bronze at the 2019 Bocuse d’Or representing Norway.
