Nothing Phone 4a and 4a Pro Unveiled: A New Approach to Mid-Range Smartphones

Nothing officially unveiled the Phone 4a and Phone 4a Pro on Thursday, marking a shift in strategy by foregoing a flagship Phone 4 release in 2026. The new devices focus on delivering premium features and design at a more accessible price point, challenging the conventional mid-range smartphone landscape.

Nothing Phone 4a: Specifications and Features

The Nothing Phone 4a features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1.5K resolution. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and offers configurations with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 5,000mAh battery with 50W wired charging provides power. Android Police reports the phone’s design is similar to the Phone 3a, but with a redesigned split camera module.

The camera system includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera, and an ultrawide sensor (specifications of which Nothing has not fully detailed, though it is believed to be 8MP). The front-facing selfie camera is 32MP.

Nothing Phone 4a Pro: Premium Features at $499

The Phone 4a Pro distinguishes itself with a brighter AMOLED panel boasting a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits. It likewise utilizes a more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, alongside the same RAM and storage options as the 4a. Engadget highlights the Pro model’s larger “Glyph Matrix” – the signature light-up interface on the rear of the phone.

The camera module on the 4a Pro features a 50MP Samsung GN9 sensor, differing from the Sony LYT700C sensor found in the standard 4a. The Phone 4a Pro is priced at $499 or $599, depending on the chosen RAM and storage configuration.

Design and Build Quality

The Phone 4a Pro features a metal unibody design available in black, silver, or pink, moving away from the translucent back of previous Nothing Phone models. Both models benefit from improved durability, with the 4a Pro achieving an IP65 water resistance rating. Engadget notes the design is reminiscent of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Availability

Preorders for the Phone 4a began on March 5th, even as preorders for the Phone 4a Pro will open on March 13th. Notably, the Phone 4a will not be available for purchase in the United States, leaving the Phone 4a Pro as the sole Nothing Phone option for American consumers.
