Czech television viewers are tuning in record numbers to watch The Extractors, a crime thriller originally streamed on OnePlay, now broadcast on Nova TV. The series, which premiered on the streaming platform in fall 2023, has become a ratings success, attracting over a million viewers per episode.

A Shift from Streaming to Traditional Broadcast

Despite its initial release on OnePlay, a digital television and VOD service created from the merger of Czech Voyo (TV Nova) and O2 TV (O2 Czech Republic) OnePlay, The Extractors found a larger audience through traditional television broadcasts. This highlights the continued importance of linear TV in the Czech Republic, even as streaming services gain popularity.

The Plot and Cast

The Extractors follows an elite Czech intelligence team tasked with rescuing Czech citizens in need of urgent facilitate abroad. The series stars Pavla Gajdošíková, Jakub Štáfek and Jan Révai. OnePlay released the series in six parts, each approximately sixty minutes long.

Hollywood Inspiration and Production Value

The series draws inspiration from Hollywood action films, particularly those featuring Chris Hemsworth, and features a significant budget, including filming on location in Turkey.
