Nunavut Launches Winter Vaccine Campaign Against Respiratory Viruses
Health officials across Nunavut are encouraging residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza as winter brings an increased risk of respiratory illnesses and other viruses.
The vaccines are now available across all Nunavut communities for everyone aged six months and older. According to the territory’s health department, residents can receive both the influenza and COVID-19 shots during a single healthcare appointment. Adults aged 65 and older will receive a specialized influenza vaccine specifically formulated to provide optimal protection for their age group.
Needle-Free Influenza Options and RSV Protection
To accommodate residents who prefer alternatives to traditional injections, the territory is offering FluMist for a limited time this season. The needle-free option is available as a light and effective nasal spray for individuals aged two to 59 years.
In addition to standard flu and COVID-19 shots, the territory is distributing vaccines targeting the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This respiratory infection can be severe in babies and older adults. The RSV immunization is currently offered to Nunavut residents aged 65 and older, as well as to all newborns in the territory, regardless of whether they were born within the territory or elsewhere.
