Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to a closed-door questioning session on November 18, after reports that U.S. intelligence believes Huang had a romantic relationship with a woman recruited as a Chinese spy, NRC reported. The inquiry centers on Alice Huang — also known as Huang Le — a former director of Megaspeed, a Singapore-based Nvidia customer, according to the New York Times and the Financial Times, which broke the story on the basis of anonymous sources.
The stakes are high for Nvidia, the world’s most valuable chipmaker with a market value of nearly $5 trillion, whose advanced processors power the global artificial-intelligence race.
Who Is Alice Huang and What Is Megaspeed Accused Of?
Megaspeed buys chips to build data centers and resells cloud computing space to Chinese companies, and it has been a Nvidia customer that purchased billions of dollars’ worth of chips, NRC reported.
U.S. intelligence agencies suspect Alice Huang was recruited by Chinese secret services, presumably to get closer to chip secrets, NOS reported. According to a memo circulated in May 2025 among President Donald Trump’s top advisers — citing U.S. intelligence — Alice Huang was recruited to gather information on Jensen Huang and possibly to persuade him to lobby the U.S. government for a freer chip policy toward China, NRC reported.
Social Media Posts Show Huang and Alice Huang Together
Photos and videos of the two circulating on social media show them drinking whisky together in June 2024, and in May 2025 they were spotted at a restaurant in Taipei, the Taiwanese capital, NOS reported. How long the relationship allegedly lasted is unclear, and the New York Times reported it is not known when Alice Huang began collecting information on the Nvidia chief or what, if anything, she passed on to Beijing.
Trump Knew for a Year but Took No Action, New York Times Reports
Trump was reportedly informed of the intelligence findings “about a year ago” but decided to do nothing with the information because he did not want to disrupt Nvidia’s chip sales or put further strain on the tense trade relationship with China, the New York Times wrote. The memo was shared with the president and his top advisers shortly before a trip to Beijing for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, on which Trump brought a delegation of American business leaders including Elon Musk of Tesla and Tim Cook of Apple.
Jensen Huang was initially not invited on that trip. When Trump learned of that, he had Air Force One make a stop in Alaska so Huang could board, NRC reported. Huang has had a close relationship with Trump, and the two have spoken regularly since Trump was inaugurated again as president in January 2025. This year Huang tried to persuade Trump to allow exports of the advanced H200 chip to China, according to the Financial Times — a move that rankled U.S. national-security officials.
Nvidia Denies Any Unusual Relationship; Justice Probe Continues
Nvidia denies that Jensen Huang had any special relationship with Alice Huang. A spokesperson told the New York Times that "Jensen’s interactions with Ms. Huang were not unusual or unexpected" and that "Jensen meets with thousands of executives from customer organizations every year." Nvidia also conducted its own internal investigation into the matter but concluded there was no evidence of wrongdoing, NOS reported. Whether Huang plans to testify before the House panel has not been disclosed.
Why the Chips Matter
Technology and innovation expert Danny Mekic told EenVandaag that Nvidia makes some of the best AI chips in the world, making it a crucial company for the American economy at a time when artificial intelligence is so important to it. The United States wants to keep those chips within the American and European economies because it earns a great deal of money from them, while China is interested in seeing, using and examining them so it can develop its own, Mekic said. Beyond the economic stakes, he pointed to a security risk: new drones increasingly carry a chip on which all calculations are performed, and those could be exactly Nvidia’s chips — which is why the United States wants to protect that information at all costs.

Questions Readers Are Asking About the Huang Case
Who exactly is Alice Huang? She is a Chinese national, also known as Huang Le, who formerly directed Megaspeed, a Singapore-based Nvidia customer. She shares a surname with Jensen Huang but is not related to him, NRC reported.
What is Megaspeed suspected of?
Did Nvidia find any wrongdoing in its own probe? No. Nvidia investigated its customer relationship internally and concluded there was no evidence of misconduct, NOS reported.
What happens next? House members have summoned Jensen Huang for a closed-door session on November 18, and a Justice Department investigation is ongoing. It remains unclear whether Huang will testify.
“Now you see a development in which new drones themselves get a chip on which all calculations are performed,” Mekic told EenVandaag — a shift that makes protecting Nvidia’s chip technology, in his words, something America wants to do “at all costs.”
