New Zealand Venture Capital Surges to $775.7 Million in First Half of 2026
New Zealand’s startup ecosystem recorded $775.7 million in venture investments across 68 funded deals in the six months ending June 2026, according to the Young Company Finance report issued by NZ Growth Capital Partners and The Angel Association. Total funding grew by 114.5 percent compared to the same period last year, even as the total number of deals fell slightly by 6.8 percent.
Early-Stage Rebound Drives Capital Growth
The report indicates a clear rebound in new deals at the proof-of-concept and pre-seed stages. Bridget Unsworth, executive director of The Angel Association, noted that early-stage investment is making a comeback while the ecosystem scales quickly. More capital was invested in the first six months of 2026 than during the entire 2025 calendar year, driven heavily by larger funding rounds becoming a defining market feature.
Larger rounds are no longer the exception. They are becoming a defining feature of the market,
Unsworth stated. She added that the growing role of venture capital in leading rounds demonstrates a maturing and increasingly sophisticated capital stack.
International Reach Across Key Technology Sectors
New Zealand companies are successfully attracting capital to compete internationally in sectors with genuine global reach. The funded areas span agtech, space technology, software, and other deeptech. Unsworth pointed out that record funding enables local companies to expand globally at a scale that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago.
The large rounds we celebrate today rest on early backing that angels provided years ago, and a renewed flow of new companies is the best indicator that this pattern can continue,
Unsworth said. She emphasized that the next challenge was to celebrate success while continuing to back founders at their earliest and most uncertain stages.
