Oaxaca’s MSME Sector Receives Boost with Over $67 Million in Credit

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca – The state of Oaxaca is bolstering its micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with increased access to financing, aiming to strengthen the internal market and promote inclusive economic growth. Recent initiatives have authorized over 1,329 million pesos (approximately $67.4 million USD as of February 28, 2026) in loans, benefiting more than 650 companies and generating over 16,813 jobs within the state.

Second Credit Fair for Business Development

The Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico (Sedeco) recently inaugurated the Second Credit Fair for Business Development, providing a platform for MSMEs and entrepreneurs to directly access financing schemes, specialized advice, and support for their productive projects. The event focused on streamlining access to competitive financing options and assisting businesses with loan application processes.

Financial Support Programs

The financial support stems from the Promoting the Development of Oaxaca and Impulso Nafin+Estados programs. Since 2023, these programs have been instrumental in channeling credit to Oaxacan businesses. An additional 300 million pesos (approximately $15.2 million USD) in placements are projected for the current edition, further stimulating productivity, competitiveness, and job stability.

Credit Bureau and Financial Literacy

The Credit Bureau played a key role in the fair, offering personalized guidance on credit history and tools to improve the financial profiles of business owners. This initiative aims to foster a culture of financial responsibility and planning among Oaxacan entrepreneurs.

Participating Financial Institutions

A range of financial institutions and organizations participated in the Credit Fair, including BBVA México, Banamex, Banco Santander México, Banorte, and Nacional Financiera (Nafin). State and federal agencies were also present, providing information on business formalization, tax compliance, and training opportunities. Sedeco offers assistance with company profiling to facilitate networking opportunities.

Oaxaca’s Commitment to MSME Growth

These efforts align with the state government’s commitment to prioritizing economic development as a means of reducing inequality, supporting job creation, and expanding opportunities for Oaxacan families. FIFEO, in collaboration with Sedeco and Nafin, operates a 745 million peso (approximately $37.8 million USD) fund specifically for MSME financing.

Accessing Financing: Eligibility and Documentation

The financing is available to individuals and legal entities over 18 years of age engaged in business activities within the manufacturing, services, commerce, and tourism sectors, with a minimum of two years of operation. Interested parties can submit the following documentation to impulso.nafin.sedeco@oaxaca.gob.mx or impulso.nafin.oaxaca@gmail.com:

Strategic Partnerships for MSME Integration

Sedeco is also working with the Secretaría Anticorrupción y de Buen Gobierno and the World Bank to integrate MSMEs, including social enterprises, into the supplier registries of the Mexican and Oaxacan governments, promoting transparency and access to public procurement opportunities.
