Otoy’s OctaneRender has released its first alpha build of version 2027.1, introducing significant advancements in rendering technology, including support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 Super Resolution and AMD’s FSR 3 (on NVIDIA cards only). This update as well features AI Light 2.0, a new hierarchical light-sampling algorithm, and enhanced geometry export capabilities.

Real-Time Neural Viewport and AI-Powered Rendering

The 2027.1 Alpha version introduces a real-time neural viewport built upon the NRC framework from Octane 2026. This allows for near noise-free interactive rendering while maintaining Octane’s spectral path-tracing quality, even in complex lighting scenarios. The feature leverages OTOY’s research and NVIDIA’s DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology.

Next-Generation Upscaling with DLSS 4 and FSR 3

A key feature of this release is the integration of NVIDIA DLSS 4 Super Resolution and AMD FSR 3 upscaling methods. Notably, FSR 3 functionality is currently limited to NVIDIA graphics cards within OctaneRender. AMD’s FSR 4.1 promises sharper images and reduced motion blur, while DLSS 4 continues to be a leading upscaling solution. AMD FSR3 can be used on NVIDIA RTX GPUs through a mod.

AI Light 2.0: Advanced Light Sampling

AI Light 2.0 represents a significant improvement in OctaneRender’s lighting capabilities. This new algorithm builds upon previous AI Light iterations and traditional power-based sampling by incorporating full spatial and directional information for all emissive primitives, resulting in more accurate and efficient light calculations.

USD Integration and Material Handling

The geometry exporter node now supports USD (Universal Scene Description) file export, allowing users to embed Octane materials directly within the USD file. This ensures complete scene preservation and facilitates seamless reimportation into OctaneRender.

Future Roadmap

Otoy has outlined ongoing development for the Octane 2027.1 release, with further features planned for implementation. The latest stable release remains OctaneRender 2026.2, shipped in February, focusing on improvements and fixes to recently added features. OctaneRender 2027.1 is currently available as an alpha build.
