Ohio Men’s Golf Finishes Sixth at Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate

SOUTH PITTSBURG, TENN. – The Ohio Bobcats concluded competition at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate on March 25th at Sweetens Cove Golf Club. The three-day tournament, held from March 23-25 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, was hosted by Miami University and featured eight teams . Ohio finished in sixth place overall.

Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed, the Bobcats began play against No. 4 seed Wright State on Monday. Ohio lost the match against Wright State 5-1, moving them into the first consolation round against Northern Kentucky.

On Tuesday, Ohio faced No. 8 seed Northern Kentucky. The Bobcats won four of six matches to secure a 4-2 victory, advancing to the fifth-place match against Queens University.

In the final round on Wednesday, Ohio took on No. 3 seed Queens with the goal of securing fifth place. The Bobcats ultimately fell short, losing 4-2, and concluded the tournament in sixth place.

  • Carson Trafford defeated Mason Butler, 2UP
  • Will Kates defeated Micah Bertram, 1UP
  • Nathaniel Gray Lamont defeated Zack Beard, 2UP

Round 3 (vs. Queens):

  • Sam Hall defeated Rhys McIlroy, 3&2
  • Sheil Iyer lost to Peyton Savageau, 7&5
  • Rylan Hall defeated Thomas Taylor-Cross, 3&1
  • Carson Trafford lost to Brad Grajzar, 2UP
  • Will Kates lost to Dean Richards, 3&1
  • Nathaniel Gray Lamont lost to Ed Davis, 2&1

Next, Ohio will travel to Pawleys Island, S.C., to compete in the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge. The two-day event, hosted by Golfweek, will take place at the True Blue Golf Club from April 6-8.
