‘One Piece’ Season 2 Villains: How Baroque Works and Wapol Reflect the Straw Hats’ Journey

As Monkey D. Luffy progresses on his quest to become King of the Pirates in One Piece Season 2, the challenges he faces will intensify. The upcoming season will introduce formidable adversaries, including the criminal organization Baroque Works and Wapol, the autocratic ruler of the Drum Kingdom. One Piece executive producer and co-showrunner Joe Tracz has discussed how these antagonists serve as a “dark mirror” to the Straw Hat Pirates.

Baroque Works: A Stylish and Deadly Threat

Baroque Works will be a central antagonistic force throughout Season 2, featuring key members such as Lera Abova’s Miss All-Sunday, Charithra Chandran’s Miss Wednesday and David Dastmalchian’s Mr. 3. Tracz described the organization as “Tarantino-style Kill Bill assassins with crazy superpowers,” emphasizing their stylish and dangerous nature.

The core dynamic of Baroque Works is a stark contrast to the Straw Hats’ camaraderie. According to Tracz, advancement within the organization requires betraying and eliminating rivals, creating a cutthroat environment. “What we really loved about them is the way they function as a dark mirror of our heroes,” Tracz explained to SFX Magazine via Bleeding Cool. “We’ve seen the Straw Hats come together, and they’re all supporting each other’s dreams. But now you have this group of agents who, to get ahead in Baroque Works, someone in front of you has to die, and that’s how you get promoted.”

Miss All-Sunday will be the primary representative of Baroque Works in Season 2, issuing orders and directly confronting the Straw Hats. However, the organization is ultimately led by Joe Manganiello’s Mr. 0. Both Manganiello and Abova have been promoted to series regulars for Season 3.

Wapol: A Tyrannical Foil to Luffy

Rob Colletti portrays Wapol, who possesses the Munch-Munch Fruit ability, allowing him to mimic the properties of anything he consumes, including living beings. Tracz explained that Wapol represents a potential dark path for Luffy, embodying the worst qualities of a leader.

“At the beginning of the season, Luffy asks the question, ‘What does it mean to be King of the Pirates?’ Then in the finale, he’s confronted with this king who believes that what being a king means is it’s my way or the highway,” Tracz said. “The reason why Wapol is the villain in our finale is because he’s someone who represents the absolute worst qualities a leader could possess. So for Luffy, who has found his crew as a captain, it’s like, what kind of captain is Luffy going to be?”

New Allies Join the Crew

Season 2 will as well introduce new allies, including Chopper, the reindeer voiced by Mikaela Hoover, and Nefertari Cobra, played by Sendhil Ramamurthy. Both Hoover and Ramamurthy will be main cast members in Season 3.

Season 2 Release Details

One Piece Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, premiering on Netflix on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
