Lungi Ngidi taken off field in ambulance due to head injury during IPL 2026 match Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was stretchered off the field in an ambulance after sustaining a head injury during the Indian Premier League 2026 match against Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The incident occurred in the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings when Ngidi attempted to take a catch off a lofted shot from opener Priyansh Arya off the bowling of Axar Patel. Ngidi misjudged the ball’s trajectory, failed to secure the catch, and landed heavily on his back, with the back of his head striking the ground. He immediately clutched his head in pain as medical staff rushed onto the field with a stretcher. Ngidi was attended to by the Delhi Capitals physiotherapy team and match officials before being transferred to an ambulance. Opposition coach Ricky Ponting and Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani were among those who checked on his condition. He was then transported to Max Hospital, Pusa Road, in Karol Bagh, Delhi, for further medical evaluation. According to an official update from the Indian Premier League on X (formerly Twitter), Ngidi complained of headache and neck pain following the fall but remained stable. The IPL confirmed he is expected to be discharged from the hospital shortly. Vipraj Nigam came onto the field as a concussion substitute for Ngidi. The match was temporarily halted during the medical response, with players from both teams and support staff gathering around the injured bowler. No further updates on his condition have been released beyond the IPL’s statement confirming his stability and imminent discharge.
