OPPO and MediaTek Advance On-Device AI Capabilities at MWC 2026
Barcelona, Spain – March 4, 2026 – OPPO and MediaTek demonstrated significant advancements in on-device artificial intelligence (AI) at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, showcasing a collaborative effort to accelerate the deployment of AI directly on smartphones. The unveiling, presented during MediaTek’s “AI for Life” keynote, highlighted new capabilities, progress on the jointly developed Omni Model, and improvements in cross-ecosystem connectivity, signaling a shared vision for the next generation of AI-powered mobile experiences.
Advancing On-Device AI: A Strategic Shift
OPPO is centering its AI strategy around “New Computing, New Perception, and New Ecosystem,” with “On-device Compute” as a core component. This approach aims to deliver low-latency, privacy-preserving, and personalized AI experiences directly on the device. According to Jason Liao, President of the OPPO Research Institute, “On-device Compute is a cornerstone of OPPO’s AI strategy, making AI a perceptible, real-time experience integrated into everyday usage.” This collaboration with MediaTek is designed to move on-device AI from a theoretical concept to a scalable reality.
New Features Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500
Leveraging the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 platform, OPPO has developed on-device AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow features that now achieve performance comparable to cloud-based solutions. These features are slated for release in the OPPO Find X9 Series with the upcoming ColorOS 16 software update.
AI Translate: Enhanced Accuracy and Reliability
The on-device AI Translate feature offers a 15% improvement in accuracy over conventional translation methods, providing seamless multilingual translation even without an internet connection or a strong mobile signal. This ensures reliable translation in diverse scenarios.
AI Portrait Glow: Improved Image Quality in Challenging Conditions
AI Portrait Glow enhances portrait photography in low-light or backlit environments. By intelligently analyzing and reconstructing scene illumination, the feature improves image quality while maintaining natural rendering, all performed directly on the device without relying on network connectivity.
Introducing Omni: A Full-Modal AI Model
OPPO and MediaTek also previewed Omni, the industry’s first on-device full-modal AI model. Omni supports voice, video, and text inputs, enabling live scene understanding and interactive question-and-answer functionality directly on a smartphone. This advancement enhances the device’s ability to perceive and interpret the physical world, paving the way for more proactive and natural human-computer interaction.
Ecosystem Integration and Interoperability
The collaboration extends to ecosystem integration, with demonstrations at the MediaTek booth showcasing the Find X9 Pro’s on-device AI capabilities alongside the OPPO Hasselblad Teleconverter. The Reno15 Pro was also featured, highlighting creative AI imaging tools like AI Motion Photo Eraser, AI Motion Photo Popout, and AI Flash Photography.
OPPO’s Find X9 Series will soon support Android Quick Share, developed in collaboration with MediaTek and Google. This feature will allow users to securely transfer files between OPPO smartphones and devices running iOS, iPadOS, and macOS without the need for third-party applications, improving cross-platform interoperability. The rollout is expected to begin in March.
Industry Recognition
At MWC 2026, the OPPO Find X9 Pro was shortlisted for the ‘Best Smartphone’ award at the GLOMO Awards, recognizing its innovation in performance, imaging, and AI integration.
Looking Ahead
OPPO and MediaTek remain committed to strengthening their collaboration in the field of on-device AI, with a focus on advancing user experience and delivering more powerful and reliable AI experiences worldwide.
