Kate Laurent Claims 3,000m Title as Oregon State Track & Field Team Finishes Fourth at MPSF Championships
RENO, Nev. – The Oregon State Beavers delivered a noteworthy performance at the MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships, highlighted by a dominant victory from Kate Laurent in the 3,000 meters. The Beavers finished fourth overall with 72.75 points.
Laurent’s Breakthrough Performance
Kate Laurent secured the conference crown in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:37.67, earning 10 points for Oregon State. This victory comes after a fourth-place finish in the same event last year. She also achieved a podium finish in the 5,000 meters, placing third in 16:57.24, marking her second consecutive year with a top-three finish in that event.
Strong Distance Group Contributions
Oregon State’s distance runners continued to contribute significantly to the team’s score. Noemi Lundgren finished third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:39.98, while Molly Latincsics placed seventh and Ainsley Herron finished eighth. In the 5,000 meters, Latincsics secured seventh place, and Lundgren, Payton Smith, and Delaney Ulrich also competed.
Freshman Success in Combined Events
Freshmen Peyton Craven and Kate Kubacki made impressive debuts in the pentathlon, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, both achieving personal best scores. Kubacki also ran a personal best of 8.90 in the 60-meter hurdles, improving her standing on Oregon State’s all-time list. Both athletes contributed points across multiple events, including the long jump, high jump, and shot put.
Additional Podium Finishes and Personal Bests
Jillian Brown earned a podium finish in the 800-meter final, placing third with a time of 2:10.62. Maya Baechler scored in both the mile and 800 meters, finishing fourth in the mile and with Ainsley Herron in fifth, while Ruby Broadbent also added to the team total. The distance medley relay team, consisting of Maella Hodgson, Riley Patera, Jenna O’Beirne, and Cadence Kasprick, finished fourth.
Dede Norman scored in both the high jump and long jump, while Lexi Hunt and Callie Brandes contributed in the high jump. Jaida Bell achieved a personal best in the long jump, moving into Oregon State’s all-time top 10, and also scored in the triple jump. Riley Patera advanced to the 400-meter final and ran a personal best, while the 4×400-meter relay team closed the championships with a scoring performance that ranks fourth all-time at Oregon State.
