Peevski Reports Caretaker Interior Minister to Prosecutors Over Alleged Interference

Sofia, Bulgaria – Delyan Peevski, leader of the MRF-New Beginning party, has filed a report with the Sofia City Prosecution Office against caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev, alleging interference in the work of the Interior Ministry’s professional staff. The move comes after Dechev’s statements in a recent podcast regarding a potential investigation involving Peevski.

Background of the Dispute

The dispute stems from Dechev’s comments in a podcast concerning a report submitted by Teodora Georgieva, a former European Public Prosecutor removed from her position due to serious violations. Dechev suggested that the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) should question Peevski in relation to this report.

Peevski’s Allegations

Peevski claims that Dechev’s suggestion constitutes “impermissible interference” in the work of the Interior Ministry’s professional staff. He argues that as a caretaker minister and magistrate, Dechev should be aware of the legal framework governing his actions and avoid exerting pressure on political opponents during the election campaign. Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning stated this on Facebook on Thursday.

Concerns Regarding Connections

Peevski’s report also requests that the Sofia City Prosecution Office investigate potential connections between Dechev, Georgieva, and Andrey Yankulov, the caretaker Minister of Justice. He asks that, if any such connections are established, appropriate legal action be taken. Fakti.bg reported on this development on March 12, 2026.

Investigation Underway

According to BurgasMedia.com, the Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the claims made by Peevski against the ministers.

Georgieva’s Protection

The situation also follows reports that Teodora Georgieva has been granted protection by Bulgaria after alleging pressure from Peevski. Novinite.com reported on this matter.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
