Early Life and Career

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mr. Castrello relocated to New York City, where he embarked on a vibrant artistic journey. He found a creative home with Miriam Colón’s Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, an influential off-Broadway venue located in Hell’s Kitchen. The theatre, founded in 1967, has been a cornerstone of Latinx arts and culture in New York City Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre.

Literary Pursuits

Mr. Castrello’s passion extended to the written word, and he dedicated himself to poetry and playwriting, publishing numerous works throughout his career. He frequently utilized the resources of the Lincoln Center Library for research, immersing himself in the world of literature and scholarship.

Mr. Castrello shared a loving life with his wife, Barbara Ann Keller. He is likewise survived by his son, Joseph Deliz; his daughters, Tina-Marie Pagán (married to William Pagán) and Stacey Hanna (married to Craig Hanna); his brothers, Neville and David Deliz; and a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Pedro and Ana Deliz, and his brothers, Ashley and Dennis Deliz.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. On Saturday, March 21, at Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover, New Jersey.
