Pixel’s March 2026 Update: Enhanced Commute Features and Personalized Transit Mode

Google’s March 2026 Feature Drop brings significant improvements to Pixel phones aimed at streamlining the daily commute. These updates include enhanced At a Glance information and a new, customizable Transit mode designed to optimize the mobile experience while traveling.

Real-Time Transit Information with At a Glance

Building on the existing “Commute” feature that provides traffic information and travel times, the latest update introduces real-time transit updates directly within the At a Glance widget. Pixel 7 and newer models will display specific details about commute conditions, such as “Significant delays on work route” and specifics like “The Blue line from Main Station is delayed.” [Google Blog] This functionality leverages your Google Maps Timeline (Location history) to learn commute patterns and provide personalized alerts.

Introducing Personalized Transit Mode

Alongside real-time updates, Google is introducing a personalized Transit mode, accessible through the Modes feature (alongside options like Do Not Disturb and Driving). This mode allows users to customize their phone’s settings specifically for when they are commuting via public transportation. Users can configure the following settings within Transit mode:

  • Sound: Choose between Sound on, Vibrate only, or Silent.
  • Connectivity: Toggle Bluetooth connectivity on or off.
  • Notifications: Allow all notifications, or customize which people and apps can send alerts.
  • Interruptions: Control which alarms and other interruptions are permitted.

Setting Up Transit Mode and Commute Alerts

To enable both Transit mode and At a Glance commute alerts, navigate to Settings > Modes > Transit > App Settings > Set up commute notifications. The setup process requires users to:

  • Set up home and work locations.
  • Confirm location settings.
  • Build a commute profile.

Google notes that Google Maps requires time to learn commute patterns, and it may take 2–3 weeks for commute information to appear after initial setup. [Google Blog]

Availability

The real-time transit information within At a Glance is available exclusively on Pixel 7 and newer devices (excluding the Pixel Tablet). The feature is globally available, excluding Europe and the UK. A connected Google account and the use of Google Maps are required to utilize these features. [Google Blog]

These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to enhancing the Pixel experience with AI-powered features designed to simplify and improve everyday tasks, particularly for commuters.
