Protests Continue Against Plovdiv’s New Police Chief

Plovdiv, Bulgaria – Protests are ongoing against the appointment of Senior Commissioner Vasil Kostadinov as the director of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVR). A new demonstration is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Sofia, following a previous protest on March 5, 2026.

Recent Appointments Within the Plovdiv Police Directorate

In the ten days since Senior Commissioner Kostadinov assumed his position on March 2, 2026, several key appointments have been made within the regional directorate. These include:

  • Asen Solakov – Head of Parvo Regional Unit
  • Daniel Kolev – Head of the Regional Administration in Asenovgrad
  • Georgi Georgiev – Head of the Regional Administration in Parvomai
  • Dimitar Dimitrov – Head of the Regional Administration in Sadovo

Kostadinov’s Background and Recent Activity

Vasil Kostadinov was appointed by Minister of Internal Affairs Emil Dechev. He recently met with the Regional Governor of Plovdiv to discuss measures for order and transparency during the upcoming vote. The Plovdiv MVR is actively working to ensure a secure and transparent voting process.

Further Changes Expected

Decisions regarding the leadership of regional offices in Karlovo, Trud, and Rakovski, as well as units within Plovdiv city, are still pending from Senior Commissioner Kostadinov.
