Prabowo Questions Slow Progress of Indonesia’s 3 Million House Program

President Prabowo Subianto has expressed concern over the sluggish progress of Indonesia’s ambitious program to build three million houses, questioning Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the Head of the Housing Task Force, about the delays. The concerns were raised during the Launching of Housing Construction to Support the 3 Million House Program in Jakarta on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Program Faces Bureaucratic Hurdles

Hashim Djojohadikusumo revealed that President Prabowo inquired about the slow pace of the housing initiative, stating, “I met the President, talked about this program. (He) asked, ‘Why is the housing program progressing slowly? It seems slow.'” Tempo.co reports.

Hashim attributed the delays to bureaucratic challenges within the newly established Ministry of Housing and Settlement Area, which has only been operational for a year. Bisnis.com likewise reported on this explanation.

PT KAI’s Role in Accelerating Construction

Despite the challenges, Hashim expressed optimism that the program could be accelerated with the involvement of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). PT KAI is constructing vertical housing in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya, with plans for completion in 2027. Tempo.co

Hashim believes that KAI’s participation will allow him to report positive progress to President Prabowo. “Frankly, I see that I can report to him, with the participation of PT KAI’s officials, it will soon be realized,” he stated.

Focus on Affordable Housing for All

The Housing Task Force aims to ensure that affordable housing is accessible to all segments of society, including low-income communities. Hashim emphasized the importance of providing housing options beyond the middle and upper classes. Tempo.co

No Involvement of Family Businesses

Hashim Djojohadikusumo also clarified that neither his business interests nor his family will be involved in the procurement projects related to the 3 million house program. Kompas.com reported on this statement.

President Prabowo’s Commitment to Speed

Despite the initial concerns, Hashim reiterated that President Prabowo is committed to the swift implementation of the 3 million house program. “But actually, the President wants it fast,” he said. Tempo.co
