Gaza’s Health Crisis: A Call for Global Response
The situation in Gaza represents a severe humanitarian crisis, wiht its health system nearing complete collapse. The widespread destruction demands a strong response from health organizations worldwide.
European public health associations have voiced strong objections to the extent of damage caused by the Israel Defense Forces. They report a near-total breakdown of health and social services within Gaza.12 However, many other professional health associations have remained quiet, and some have even discouraged members from speaking out in support of Palestinian health needs.
This silence is deeply concerning. A functioning health system is essential for any population, and its destruction has devastating consequences. The lack of access to medical care, essential supplies, and safe conditions puts countless lives at risk.
Health professionals have a duty to advocate for the well-being of all people, regardless of location or political circumstances. Greater global health organizations must address this crisis and support the rebuilding of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. This includes providing aid, speaking out against actions that harm civilians, and ensuring the safety of healthcare workers.
