Jasamarga Removes Rice Paddy Routes from Google Maps to Prevent Toll Gate Misdirection
YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA – PT Jasamarga Jogja-Solo (JMJ) has removed alternative routes to the Purwomartani Toll Gate in Sleman Regency from Google Maps, following numerous reports of drivers becoming lost and inadvertently driving through rice paddies. The decision, announced on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, aims to streamline access to the toll gate and prevent further incidents of misdirection during peak travel periods.
Rachmat, Public Relations of PT Jasamarga Jogja – Solo (JMJ), confirmed the removal of the routes. “Information from our field teams indicates that the routes leading to the Purwomartani Toll Gate have been deleted from Google Maps,” Rachmat stated when met at the Purwomartani Toll Gate on Tuesday evening Kompas.com.
The action was taken after a surge in travelers, particularly during the recent arus balik (return flow) period, relied on Google Maps navigation and were directed onto narrow village roads and through rice fields. One traveler, Damar, explained he continued following the directions despite realizing the route led through a rice field, stating he felt unable to turn back Kompas.com.
JMJ has supplemented the removal of the routes from Google Maps with the installation of directional signage to guide travelers to the Purwomartani Toll Gate via Yogya-Solo Road. Personnel have been deployed to assist drivers and provide directions Tribun Jogja.
“Field teams are on standby, and we have installed signs to direct travelers to the toll gate,” Rachmat added.
