These teams met in a Takeover Tour game last season in Vancouver, with the Victoire earning a 4-2 win on Jan. 8 with two goals from captain Marie-Philip Poulin.Montréal went 2-0-1-1 in its four Takeover Tour games last season, while Toronto went 0-1-0-1 in their two games.

The Scotiabank Centre played host to Game 4 of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series on feb. 6, a game that saw the U.S.win 2-1 in a shootout. A total of 13 players from these teams competed,with Canada’s goal scored by Toronto captain and Nova Scotia native Blayre Turnbull and assisted by Sceptres alternate captain Renata Fast. Montréal’s Ann-Renée Desbiens was in net for Canada with fellow Victoire erin Ambrose, Poulin and Laura Stacey in the lineup alongside Sceptres Emma Maltais, Ella Shelton and daryl Watts. On Team USA,Montréal’s Maureen Murphy played alongside toronto’s Jesse Compher,Clair DeGeorge and Savannah Harmon.

Montréal has won each of its last two games by multiple goals. It’s the third time the victoire have done so in back-to-back games, with the other two instances coming in their inaugural season.They have never done so in three consecutive games.

Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie,a New Glasgow,NS,native and former St. Mary’s captain is expecting up to 70 family members and friends to be in attendance for the game.

PWHL Makes Atlantic Canada Debut in Halifax with Montréal-Toronto Rivalry

the Professional Women’s Hockey league (PWHL) is set to make its historic debut in Atlantic Canada tonight, December 18, 2024, as the Montréal and toronto teams face off at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.This game marks the first stop of the DoorDash PWHL Takeover Tour presented by the Province of Nova Scotia, bringing professional women’s hockey to a new audience and offering a rematch highly anticipated by the Toronto team.Halifax will also host a second Takeover Tour game on January 11, 2025, featuring Boston versus Ottawa.

A Rematch with High Stakes

Toronto Sceptres Alternate Captain Allie Munroe expressed the team’s eagerness to play in Halifax and Montréal, particularly highlighting their desire for revenge after a previous loss to Montréal before the international break. “We’re really excited to be Halifax and to play Montréal — a nice rematch as we were not too happy with our last game against them before the International Break,” Munroe stated. She emphasized the special atmosphere expected with many friends and family in attendance, adding to the excitement of being the first takeover Tour stop of the season.

Celebrating Local Talent and Inspiring the Next Generation

The event is rich with local connections and celebrations of Nova Scotian achievement.the ceremonial puck drop will be performed by sisters Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance, a celebrated sailing duo who represented Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympics and have continued their success with a European Championship win, two World Cup podiums, and a bronze medal at the 2024 World Championships. Currently ranked number one in the world, they are preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Canadian national anthem will be sung by DeeDee Austin,a 19-year-old Indigenous singer/songwriter from Nova Scotia and Abegweit First Nation in Prince Edward Island. Providing the soundtrack for the evening will be Halifax-based DJs Jules Bangsworth and Chad bannister, the official DJ of the National Lacrosse League’s Halifax Thunderbirds.

Homecoming for PWHL Officials & Community Engagement

The game also marks a homecoming for several members of the officiating team. Referee Shauna Neary and linesperson Sophie Thomson are both from Halifax, and referee Andrew Bell has Nova Scotia roots.

Beyond the on-ice action, the PWHL is committed to community engagement. A group of 50 participants from the Nova scotia Indigenous Girls’ Hockey program will be welcomed to the game and will enjoy a special post-game autograph session with Montréal forward Abby Roque.
