Brown Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 5 Quinnipiac 8-2 on the Road
The Brown women’s hockey team dropped an 8-2 decision to No. 5 Quinnipiac on Saturday in Hamden, Connecticut, managing 24 shots on goal against the Bobcats’ 31. Head coach Melanie Ruzzi pointed to defensive miscues as a driving factor in the lopsided ECAC matchup. If anything could go wrong in this game, it did,
Ruzzi told brownbears.com after the final horn.
Bobcats Build Early Lead in Opening Period
Quinnipiac applied immediate offensive pressure, opening the scoring less than two minutes into the contest. The hosts doubled their advantage just 62 seconds later before adding a third goal at the 14:26 mark. The Bobcats carried that 3-0 cushion through the remainder of the first period, capitalizing on early turnovers by the Bears.
Second Period Scoring Spree and Brown Responses
The Bobcats pushed their lead to 4-0 at the 2:42 mark of the middle frame before Brown mounted a brief response. Junior Monique Lyons answered three seconds later with her second goal of the season, assisted by senior Sam Broz and junior Margot Norehad. Nearly four minutes later, junior Ella Muralt scored during a power play to narrow the deficit to 5-2, with Broz and Norehad again recording the assists. Quinnipiac erased any momentum by adding another goal 12 seconds later, eventually expanding the margin to 8-2 before the second period ended.
Offensive Streaks and Special Teams Performance
Broz and Norehad paced the Brown offense with two assists each, while Broz and Lyons continued their streak of recording points in all four games of the young season. Lyons also extended her personal point streak to 14 consecutive games, a run stretching back to last season. On special teams, the Bears went 1-for-3 on power-play opportunities, while Quinnipiac controlled the faceoff circle by winning 32 draws to Brown’s 25.
