RayNeo Unveils iO: Camera-Free AI Smart Glasses with Real-Time Translation

RayNeo announced the iO, a camera-free smart glass focused on display and artificial intelligence assistant capabilities, priced at $479 with a scheduled release on September 4. According to coverage by Engadget and Gizmodo, the device omits a camera entirely in favor of a microphone array and sensors, aligning with similar minimalist designs from competitors like EvenReality and Xgimi.

Display and Hardware Specifications

The iO features a monochrome green display utilizing a 0.1cc MicroLED panel known as the Firefly Engine Nano, measuring 0.6mm in thickness, according to Android Authority. Engadget reported that the display delivers a 23.5-degree field of view (FOV) with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Gizmodo noted that this brightness level sits above EvenReality’s G2 at 1,200 nits, but below Xgimi’s MemoMind One at 2,000 nits.

The device lacks built-in speakers. Instead, Engadget stated that it relies on bone conduction sensors used strictly for audio input, paired with a four-microphone array designed to isolate voice vibrations in noisy environments. Navigation relies on a physical “Smart Crown dial” situated on the right temple, functioning similarly to an Apple Watch Ultra control by allowing users to press to select and rotate to scroll through screens, as outlined by Gizmodo.

Material construction differs slightly across official documentation. RayNeo promotional materials cited by multiple outlets mention an AZ91D magnesium-aluminum alloy and aerospace-grade titanium temples with a total weight of 33g, while official support pages verified by The Gadgeteer list the weight at 34g with a 50-50 weight distribution balance. The hardware carries an IP54 water and dust resistance rating, supports Bluetooth 5.4, and holds Apple MFi certification for cross-compatibility between Android and iOS systems, as reported by Android Authority.

AI Translation and Productivity Features

Core functionality centers on real-time subtitles, translation, meeting summaries, and a teleprompter mode. BabelOS 3.0 translation software developed by Timekettle handles language processing. While Android Authority and RayNeo support pages cite translation support for 40 languages, launch materials reviewed by Engadget and The Gadgeteer list capability for 55 languages and 109 accents with an approximate one-second latency.

Additional productivity software includes an Ambient AI Life Log mode designed to capture context and schedules in a low-power background state, along with a voice memo feature that provides AI-generated meeting summaries. For presenters, the auto-teleprompter tool projects scripts onto the display and adjusts text speed automatically to match the user’s speaking rate. Android Authority noted that core processing runs on RayNeo AI and Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, with an optional $9.99 monthly multi-model subscription granting access to alternative models including ChatGPT 5.1, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and DeepSeek V3.

Privacy Considerations and Battery Life

The inclusion of a persistent microphone array has drawn scrutiny regarding passive recording. Engadget noted that continuous audio capture raises privacy concerns similar to those associated with camera-equipped smart glasses. RayNeo stated that an LED indicator illuminates whenever recording or translation functions are active, though outlets point out that such indicators can be obstructed. However, the absence of a camera removes risks associated with surreptitious visual recording.

Power is supplied by a 240mAh battery. Android Authority and Engadget reported a general lifespan of up to 48 hours on standard use or up to 96 hours in standby mode, with continuous recording draining the battery in approximately 18 hours and continuous translation lasting about 6.2 hours.

Pricing, Bundles, and Entertainment GT Series

The iO launches at a base price of $479, accompanied by early promotional discounts and a $529 bundle that includes a charging case, which can also be purchased separately for $69. Alongside the iO, RayNeo introduced the GT and GT Max entertainment-focused AR display glasses. Weighing 68g and 78g respectively, the GT series features thicker frames, quad speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen, and 3DoF AR chips, delivering virtual screens up to 231 inches at a 46-degree FOV for the base model and 307 inches at a 59-degree FOV for the Max variant, according to Engadget. Pricing for the GT series remains unannounced ahead of their physical debut alongside the iO at IFA.
