Real Betis Winger Antony Reports House Robbed in Sevilla During Champions League Match

Real Betis Winger Antony Target of Burglary During UEFA Champions League Victory

Real Betis winger Antony returned home to find his Sevilla residence burglarized after playing the full 90 minutes and providing a key assist in a 3-2 UEFA Champions League win against Porto, Animal MX reported. The 26-year-old Brazilian attacker shared a statement on social media detailing the emotional toll of the break-in, which occurred while he was away on club duty.

Emotional Toll and Security Concerns Following the Sevilla Break-In

Antony described the incident as a transition from a brilliant athletic night to a bitter experience marked by rage, sadness, and frustration. In his public statement, the player emphasized that the material losses matter less than the psychological impact on his household. According to his explanation regarding the incident while he had a match at the stadium of La Cartuja, he stated: Todo lo que hemos perdido podremos volver a conseguirlo.

Broader Trend of Burglaries Targeting Professional Footballers in Europe

The crime at Antony’s home reflects an ongoing security issue across European football where organized criminal networks target players’ properties during matchdays. Organized bands in countries like Spain, England, Italy, and France take advantage of the public schedules of football matches to break into footballers’ homes knowing they are far away from their residences. Because fixtures and stadium concentrations are public knowledge, thieves frequently time burglaries to coincide with evening kickoffs when athletes are away at stadiums. This incident arrived immediately following a separate high-profile security breach in Spain. A day earlier, Valencia-based goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi of Villarreal suffered a violent armed robbery at his home prior to his club’s UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 fixture, Animal MX reported.
