Linares Table Tennis Academy Shines at State Tournament Despite Missing the Podium

The Real Club Tenis de Mesa Linares showcased promising talent at the recent State Tournament, with athletes demonstrating a high level of competition despite not securing a podium finish. The club’s performance has sparked increased interest from aspiring players and their families eager to join the program.

Youth Category Standouts

In the youth male category, Hugo Urquízar faced challenges due to a shoulder injury, preventing him from competing for a medal. Ferrán Paredes, despite tough matchups, achieved a gold medal in the adapted category the previous week. Alberto López, a member of CEEDA, displayed strong performance but was defeated by the eventual champion, Ladimir Mayorov.

On the women’s side, Amalia Triana reached the round of 32 in the absolute category, advancing to the round of 16. Sara Suárez, a first-year junior, narrowly missed a medal. Marta Perales and Blanca Muñoz, competing in the cadet category, also came close to a podium finish, highlighting the strength of the Tecnigen Linares Honor Division team.

Developing Talent Pipeline

The club’s younger athletes also impressed. Ana Chen, in her first year of the children’s category, nearly earned a medal, generating excitement within the club. Jacobo Hervas competed in his first year in the male fry category.

Benjamin Monica Carrasco, a product of the club’s “silo del cereal” development program, reached the quarter-finals, demonstrating the success of the youth team. Club officials expressed optimism about the future, particularly with the anticipated expansion of facilities.

The club emphasized that athlete development is as critical as winning medals. They expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of their athletes and are already preparing for the 2027 edition of the tournament, anticipating potential medal wins as the team matures.
