Occitanie Judo: Regional Grade Exams See Over 350 Judokas Compete
Over 350 judokas from across the Occitanie region participated in regional grade exams held on March 21 and 22, a crucial step for those pursuing black belt qualifications. The event, organized by the Occitanie federation and the Gard committee, took place at a local sports hall that was put into service five years ago.
Event Overview
The weekend event drew over 500 people, including competitors, supervisors, and families. Saturday was dedicated to technical tests and katas, with over 100 participants evaluated on their sequences and mastery. Sunday saw more than 250 judokas competing in official fights to validate the points needed for black belt attainment.
Young Judokas Participate
Among the participants were Maïwen Petit, 16, and Mathéo Mazoyer, 17, from the Jonquière club, both brown belts and first-time participants in a grade change exam. They continue to progress in their demanding training.
Local Club President Praises Event
Stéphane Mazoyer, president of the club, described the weekend as “a major event on a regional scale.” He emphasized the quality of the organization, the dedication of the volunteers, and the excellent facilities offered by the sports hall, all of which contributed to the smooth running of the event.
